Tottenville High School Pirate Marching Band

The primary purpose of the Tottenville High School Pirate Marching Band is to provide our students with an experience in music that is both enjoyable and educational. The elements of music are taught through the exciting medium of marching performance. The drama of Russian composers, the elegance of Mozart, and the patriotic fervor of Americans, like Sousa, are brought to life in marching band. In addition, the program offers the opportunity to develop social, mental and leadership skills. Of course, friendships and good times are as important as anything else!

Goals and Objectives

The goals and objectives of the Marching Band Program are to provide young musicians with an educational experience combining music and outdoor performance. The focus of the curriculum is primarily aimed at educating the individual student musician to gain appreciation, knowledge and understanding of music and the performing arts. Through tradition and innovation the program challenges the individaul to further develop the mastering of musical instruments. Strong muscial growth through team work provided by experiences in music, marching performances and eduction, create an atmosphere emphasized by social, mental, physical and emotional growth. These constitute the foundation upon which the progarm's goals and objectives are based.

Color Guard

Color Guard is an integral part of the Marching Band. Color Guard is know as the "Sport of the Arts." The mission of these performers is an important entity of the ensemble bringing the marching band music performance to life through visual artistic expressions, athletics, colorful presentations, and theatrical nuances while conveying the essence of the musical score. Each member of the Color Guard experiences the exctiting world of perormance through entertainment; where pagentry involves an array of equipment, movement, and skill. Power, Passion and Precision through the performing art of brilliant flags, rifle spinning, dancing and twirling are the primary fundamentals of its regiment. Students experience the excitement of performing while developing leadership skills, creating friendships, talents and standards of excellence, while fostering an environment where individuals can grow, laugh, learn and meet challenges as a group.

Tottenville High School Marching Band Parent Club

The THSMB Parent Club acts as a support network for our students.  Parents organize fundraisers, act as chaperones, and assist the Directors, as needed.
